The Whitecaps secured a 1-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders in their latest MLS encounter, marking their second home victory over their rivals. Yohei Takaoka earned a clean sheet for the Whitecaps making one save, while Frei made four saves for the Sounders.
Vancouver had a significant advantage in shots and shots on goal. The win over Seattle followed their 2-1 victory over them in September 2020 and it marks the first time that Vancouver has beaten the Sounders and the Portland Timbers at home in the same season.
The Vancouver Whitecaps defeated the Seattle Sounders 2-0 in an MLS soccer match on Saturday night. Pedro Vite scored just before halftime to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead, and an own-goal by Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei in the second half completed the scoring.
The Whitecaps beat the Sounders for a second straight time at home and had advantages of 17-8 in shots and 5-1 in shots on goal. This is the first time the Whitecaps have beaten both the Sounders and the Portland Timbers at home in the same season. Vancouver travels to play St. Louis City on Saturday. Seattle returns home to host the New York Red Bulls on the same day.
